  • by

On June 12th, experts from the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs as well as officers and collaborators that kindly assist us in supporting  children from 4 wards/communes in District 8 and Binh Chanh District, joined a training program organized by the HCMC Child Welfare Association (HCWA).

At the beginning of the session, Mr. Phuc Nguyen – a representative from the HCWA, gave an overview of the current operation situation and introduced  the HCWA’s models for our projects and shelters. Next, Mr. Nghinh Pham – a project manager of the “Protection and Prevention of Child abuse in Ho Chi Minh City” project, introduced the projects criteria for selecting children to receive support services as well as the requirements for volunteers. Those requirements include having the necessary skills needed for case management; and the necessary steps to collect information when visiting children in order to accurately assess their needs, to name just a few.

Finally, Mr. Tinh Nguyen – a representative from the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, gave an overview of the overall situation of the child care work taking place in disadvantaged areas of HCMC. Mr. Tinh  pointed out the difficulties that lead to limitations in child care work, including obstacles faced in the nurturing and education of children in a family environment, and solving issues that cause children to experience academic pressure and school violence, etc. In addition, he also mentioned the forms of physical and emotional abuse, labor exploitation, and sexual abuse that have lead to the unfortunate suicide cases of children recently. From experiences and knowledge he has gained through his own practical work, Mr.Tinh synthesized and updated the innovations in child-related policies to share with participants.

Overall, this session gave members the opportunity to discuss and come up with positive solutions related to supporting children in the project area.
