We come from different parts of Vietnam with different ages (8-16 of age), backgrounds and characteristics but have the difficult backgrounds in common: domestic violence, being abandoned, living in the street, broken and poor family. We did not have what the common children have. We had to learn how to earn a living from a very young age; some of us had to stop schooling early. Almost every day, we thought about our future life which would not have books & new clothes, a life that we have inability to support from family or live in fear and violence.
There is a saying “If one door closes, another opens” and we found Green Bamboo Warm Shelter (GBWS).
Here, we are helped to have accommodation, meals, health care, education, and various sports & recreational activities such as swimming, football, painting and watching movie, etc., which used to be only in our dreams. GBWS is our second home where we live in love, solidarity and discipline. The educators of GBWS together with university volunteers teach us wonderful lessons and life skills, encouraging us to think forward and to try our good efforts to be good members of society so that we will help other underprivileged children and people in the future.
Many centers for social welfare being established among others being faced with difficulties/closure, we children are not able to help them out at presence but in the future, we will definitely do something positive for the lives of disadvantaged people as much as GBWS is helping us.
